Salzburg v Lokomotiv Moscow Betting Tips [21 October 2020]

Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow were both involved in the Champions League last year and will return to continental action against one another in Group A on Wednesday night. Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are the other two teams that make up this group and are heavily fancied to advance to the knockout stages but a win here for either team would give them an advantage over one of the big-hitters. 

The Austrian hosts graced this stage last season and the hottest young striker on the planet introduced himself to the world with Erling Haaland ripping it up in the Champions League before signing for Borussia Dortmund in January. Takumi Minamino also moved on to Liverpool after Christmas and Salzburg’s European campaign fizzled out with a Europa League Round of 32 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt after finishing third in a UCL group behind Liverpool and Napoli. 19-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboslai and 22-year-old striker Patson Daka have done their bit to step into the shoes of those before them and starred as Salzburg saw off Maccabi Tel-Aviv 5-2 on aggregate in the final Champions League qualifying round. The hosts also come into this game in tremendous form with eight successive victories in three different competitions and have are currently top of the Tipico Bundesliga after four wins from four.  

As for Lokomotiv Moscow they are back in this competition after finishing 4th in Group D last season. The Russian club won their opening group game last year away in Germany beating Bayer Leverkusen but lost their five fixtures thereafter to crash out of Europe altogether. After a poor start to their domestic season this term Moscow have regrouped to win four successive matches and are now 4th after 11 games but have won just two of their last five games on the road.  

Salzburg come into this game in tremendous form with eight successive wins and I think they have what it takes to out do their Russian counterparts. Lokomotiv Moscow have been inconsistent to start this season and I think the step up to European competiton could prove a bridge too far. Back a home win here.
