The Italian Serie A resumes this weekend with one of the games in focus will see Roma host Sampdoria on Sunday. Roma come into the match in fifth place with 47 points while Sampdoria are second from bottom with 15 points. Roma have been woeful in recent weeks and before the international break had gone three matches without a win across all competitions. Jose Mourinho’s men lost back-to-back matches in the league which resulted in them dropping out of the top four and they will want to avoid dropping even further away, with a win here. They will take confidence from the fact that they are unbeaten at home against Sampdoria in the last four matches. The Giallarossi will however have to do without the services of midfielder Bryan Cristante and defender Roger Ibanez who were both red-carded during a feisty Rome derby against Lazio last time out.
Sampdoria are in serious danger of being relegated to the second tier. Dejan Stankovic’s men are knee-deep in the relegation zone and nine points away from safety. Before the international break, they secured a massive 3-1 win over relegation rivals Hellas Verona and will hope that the momentum is still there to do more than just trouble Roma. The win was only their third of the season and put to a halt a run of 11 matches without a win. They have however not won two matches in a row and have only once all season avoided defeat in back-to-back matches in the league.
Roma have had a dip in form in recent weeks but they have enjoyed success against Sampdoria. Looking at the contrast between their home form and Sampdoria’s away record, our take for Roma v Sampdoria is for the match to end in a home win.
