The Europa League Round of 32 begins this Thursday and this game sees Group I winners Gent of Belgium travel to the Italian capital to face AS Roma who advanced to this stage as runners-up in Group J.
Roma come into this game in bad need of a lift in spirits as they have lost their last three fixtures in succession. They are without a win in five matches since the middle of January and they have lost four of those five games. When looking at recent home games the record doesn’t look much better. At the Stadio Olimpico they have lost three of their last four games, drawing the other and they won just one of their three home matches in the group stage but remained unbeaten when hosting. Roma are currently 5th in Serie A but they have won just five of their 12 home matches in the league and are often susceptible to conceding. They have kept just two clean sheets in 15 games at home this year in all competitions.
As for the visitors they travel here after in great form. The Belgian club are currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run and they have won four of their five games in 2020. The away side are in second place in their domestic league nine points adrift of leaders Club Brugge after a 3-2 win away at Eupen at the weekend. Gent have also won each of their last three away matches and were unbeaten on the road in the group with one win and two draws.
Roma games often produce a lot of goals and that has been the case of late. Gent were beaten 3-1 on their last visit here 3-1 but they will have more belief coming into this game over a decade later as they are on a great run of form. I’m not certain of the result here but I do expect both teams to score in this match.
