Chelsea will look to continue their excellent defensive revival as they travel to French Ligue 1 side Rennes in this Group ‘E’ fixture of the UEFA Champions League. Rennes are bottom of the standings with just one point from their first three matches, while Chelsea are top of the pile with seven points and seven goals and none against.
Rennes were defeated 1-0 by Bordeaux in the weekend game to make it three losses in a row in all competition. Worse still, Rennes have failed to score in each of those three losses. Taking it further, Rennes have lost five of their last six competitive matches winning just once. In the Champions League, Rennes are yet to post a win – drawing one and losing two. Both the losses saw Rennes fail to score a goal. That said, their only point of the campaign came at home in a 1-1 draw against Rennes.
Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-0 over the weekend extending their winning run to five matches in all competitions. Impressively, four of those wins have come without conceding whilst Chelsea scored at least three goals in four of those wins. Chelsea’s improvements in the defensive stats have been a revelation as they look to extend their record in the Champions League. The Blues haven’t conceded a goal this campaign and are looking solid as ever. With a strike force that is second to none and scoring goals for fun, Chelsea will feel confident that they can keep the winning run going.
Chelsea have been mighty impressive at the back and that should continue in this match. We are backing just one side score goals in this encounter, which is a very attractive option.
