The final matchday in the Spanish La Liga sees champions Madrid hosting Real Betis at the Bernabeu. Los Blancos have had their record 35th league title wrapped up for a few weeks now and will look to tune up for the Champions League final against Liverpool next weekend with a positive result here. They welcome a Betis team who can still sneak a fourth-place finish, and Champions League qualification, with three points and a Sevilla loss. As things currently stand, Real Betis hold a two point lead over sixth place Real Sociedad but have the head-to-head advantage, meaning a draw for the visitors and a Sociedad win would still see Betis hold onto the fifth position. Los Verdiblancos are coming off a 2-0 home win over Granada in their last fixture and have now won back-to-back matches.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti opted to field a mostly rotated eleven in Madrid’s last match, a 1-1 away draw to Cadiz. He is expected to return to the first choice team here as Madrid’s key players will want to get back into the flow before the all-important showdown with English giants Liverpool in a highly anticipated Champions League final. Los Blancos have shown excellent consistency both home and away this season, a major reason for their comfortable La Liga triumph, and have put together a record of 13 wins, four draws and only one defeat at home. They have won their last three home La Liga fixtures by a combined score of 12-0 but could potentially be in for a tricky match here. Betis have La Liga’s third best away record at nine wins, five draws and four defeats and are unbeaten in their last five away from home. We’re going with Real Madrid to win this match as our bet for this one. Betis technically have more on the line but you can be sure that Madrid won’t want to come into the Champions League final off a home loss. The hosts have an excellent record at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and have been steamrolling teams in recent matches there. We expect the usual starting 11 from Ancelotti here, perhaps with one or two changes, but Madrid should have enough firepower to get past this Betis team.
