Real Madrid have built up an eight point lead at the top of La Liga. They host defending champions Atletico Madrid who are in fourth, ten points behind Real with a game in hand. The home side are in top form with nine straight wins in all competitions. Midweek saw them beat Inter in the Champions League, the clean sheet kept was their third in a row. Real have won 12 of their 16 La Liga games this season with the last six all ending in victories. At home this season, Real Madrid have won five and drawn two in La Liga and are unbeaten in the last 17 played. They are unbeaten in their last five home league fixtures against Atletico, last being beaten in 2016.
A defeat this weekend for Atletico would seriously damage their hopes of retaining the La Liga title. Winning though would see them get to seven points behind Real with a game in hand. Midweek saw them beat Porto to make it into the last 16 of the Champions League. That followed a surprise 1-0 home loss to Mallorca last weekend. They led that game 1-0 going into the 80th minute but the visitors battled back to take the three points. Now Atletico take on Real and after that have a trip to Sevilla as they try to keep in the title race. Only one of their last four away league games has been won. Back Real to continue their good form and get a vital home win here.
