Glasgow Rangers host PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League play-off round tie. The Scottish side will be desperate to qualify for the group-stages as rivals Celtic already have their place safely secured. Rangers reached the final of the Europa League last season but a penalty shootout defeat ended their hopes of winning the trophy and getting into the Champions League group stages. The Scots last played in the grouip stages in the 2010/11 season and very nearly went out in the third qualifying round. They lost the away first leg to Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0 but won 3-0 at home. It's their form at Ibrox Park that is key to this tie. Rangers are unbeaten in their last seven home European ties, scoring at least twice in all of those matches. No wins in the last five on the road in Europe shows just how important it is for them to get a good lead to take to PSV.. They have a 100% record in the Scottish Premiership, only behind Celtic on goal difference. Their last three games have all been won with nine goals and none conceded.
The visitors haven't played in the Champions League group stages since the 2018/19 season. Last term saw them in all three of the European competitions, eventually bowing out in the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League. This season has seen them defeat Monaco in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. They drew the away first leg 1-1 but needed an 89th minute equaliser in the second leg to take the tie to extra time, eventually winning 3-2. PSV have only won two of their last eight away games in the Champions League. They struggle to keep away clean sheets with none in their last six competitive away fixtures. They are second in the Dutch Eredivisie having won both their games but still managed to concede twice away at Go Ahead Eagles. Go for Rangers to get the home win here.
