The second matchday of the Scottish Premier League sees Rangers hosting newly promoted Kilmarnock at the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. Rangers opened up the new league season with a come from behind 2-1 away win against Livingston in the season opener but fell to a disappointing 2-0 away defeat to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in Europa League qualifiers the last time out. They’ll look to get back to winning ways here as they try to wrestle the league title back from rivals Celtic. Their opponents return to the Scottish top flight after just one season in the Championship. Kilmarnock topped the second division with a record of 20-7-9 and kicked the new season off with a point in a 1-1 home draw against Dundee. Killie face a much tougher task this time out against a Rangers side that has beaten them in four of their last five meetings.
Coming off a 2-0 defeat in the last fixture, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will surely be demanding his team come out of the gates quickly here. We should see a fired up Rangers side and there’s a good chance they are able to do some damage early against this Kilmarnock side in front of the home fans. Looking back at the previous season’s results, Rangers had a record of 11 wins, five draws and three defeats at home after the first 45 minutes. For the visitors, despite topping the Championship table, Kilmarnock still struggled away from home considering the weaker opposition. Killie had a record of 4-13-1 after the first half when playing away from home in the previous campaign and will need to improve against the oddsmakers' second-favorites for the league title in Rangers.
