Champions PSG will officially conclude their season this weekend when they host FC Metz at the Parc des Princes for matchday 38 of the Ligue 1 season. The Parisians, reclaiming the title from Lille, have now made it eight league crowns in the last 10 years as their dominance of French football continues. PSG have had the title wrapped up for nearly a month now and currently hold a 15-point lead over second place Monaco. Trailing 17th-place Lorient by four points, 18th-place FC Metz will have to navigate the promotion playoff with the third-place Ligue 2 side if they are to continue in the top flight of French Football for next season. Les Grenats are battling with 19th-place St. Etienne who are even on points with 31 and will also be looking to the playoff to survive the drop.
Having been eliminated from all other competitions, it looked as if Mauricio Pochettino’s team had let their concentration slip after recording three straight league draws. However, a 4-0 away win against Montpellier in their last match looks to have gotten Les Rouges-et-Bleu back on track as they look to close out the season with a convicinging win over their relegation-threatened opponents. Metz will be hoping their late season surge of good form can continue in what is hands down the toughest fixture of the season. The visitors have now made it back-to-back league wins for the first time all season, although both results came at home. Metz have struggled with their goal scoring consistency this campaign and have the highest number of matches where they failed to find the net at 15. They have also only found the net on 21 occasions while their opponents have the best defensive record in Ligue 1. PSG have only conceded 12 total goals at home in league play while the visitors have only managed 14 away goals, meaning a win and a clean sheet for the hosts looks to be on the cards here. We’re going to back PSG to win to nil as our bet for this one. Metz are the team with more to play for but the talent difference between these two sides is simply too wide to back anything other than a convincing home win. The visitors’ scoring struggles are likely to continue here and we should see the Parisians able to knock a few goals in as well. We can see 3-0 to the hosts as a likely scoreline for this match.
