Barring an absolute miracle PSG will be playing in the quarter-finals of the Champions League as they take their 4-1 advantage from the first encounter into the second-leg of this round of 16 tie. The Parisians stormed Camp Nou three weeks ago scoring four away goals but as we have seen Barcelona do before, the tables can be turned no matter the margin. PSG fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Monaco in their first game after that win but have won each of their last three matches without conceding. A 3-0 win at the weekend over Brest saw them advance to the last-16 of the Coupe de France and they will be hoping to seal passage the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition having made it to the final in the last campaign. PSG won two of their three home group games but have only won the home leg of their last-16 ties once in the last three seasons.
When these teams last met in the UCL, PSG won the first leg 4-0 at the Pairc des Princes before a remarkable turnaround for Barcelona ensued as they won 6-1 at home to advance. However, if they are to pull off another miracle here, they will need to do it as the visitors and they have struggled over the past few seasons when playing away from home in the Champions League. Despite being victorious in each of their three group games on the road, Barcelona have only won one of their last eight away games in the knockout stages of the competition. The Blaugrana come into this one off the back of four straight wins and did show their fighting spirit last week to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the Copa del Rey semi-final to Sevilla but surely this mountain is too big to climb?
