Championship leaders Preston North End look to continue their good start to the new season. They host Birmingham City who are sixth in the table and five points behind their opponents. Preston are a point clear at the top and the only unbeaten side in the Championship after the first six games. Five of those six games have been won, the other being a 1-1 draw at Bristol City in their opening fixture. Five straight wins have come since then and on Saturday they beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 at home. That was the third home league win of the season, all ending in a 2-1 scoreline. It's far better than the way Preston ended last season when only one point was earned from their last five games.
Birmingham City come into this game having earned only a point from their last two matches. They had started the season well with a run of ten points from their first four games. It's not gone well since then with a second round exit in the Carabao Cup followed by a 1-1 home draw with inconsistent Millwall. Their slump in form continued at the weekend with a 2-0 loss at Watford. Any Birmingham fans leaving early may well have thought their team were going to get a point. However, Watford scored in the 91st and 96th minutes to get the win. Birmingham have only won two of their last seven away league fixtures. Preston can get the win here to stay top of the Championship.
