Five-time Copa del Rey champions Sevilla seek to lift the cup for the first time since the 2009/10 season when they take to the field against Osasuna for this quarter-final matchup. It’s been a difficult first half of the season for Los Nervionenses as inconsistent play has seen them fall down to 15th in the La Liga standings. However, a positive run in the cup could act as a catalyst for the rest of the season and there have certainly been signs that things are starting to turn around under the stewardship of manager Jorge Sampaoli. Sevilla have now won four of their last five matches with their most recent a 1-0 home victory over Cadiz in the league. They’re also on a run of just one defeat in their last eight matches, with six wins and an additional draw. Sevilla advanced to the quarter-final by way of a 1-0 away victory over Alaves in the round of 16.
High-flying Osasuna stand in their way as the hosts seek only their second ever Copa del Rey final after finishing as runners-up in the 2005 edition. It’s been a strong season for Los Rojillos so far, who have climbed up to seventh in the La Liga table and are in contention for European qualification as they trail sixth-place Betis solely on goal differential. Osasuna defeated Real Betis on penalties in the round of 16 to advance to this stage, improving what has been an excellent run of form dating back to October. Over their last 13 competitive matches, Osasuna has lost only twice over 90 minutes, with six wins and five draws – two of those draws in the Copa del Rey which would eventually end in wins after extra time.
Sevilla have earned some positive results in recent weeks but it’s also important to keep in mind that their four wins in this competition have come against lower division opposition. Osasuna have been formidable at home and will present a major test for this still vulnerable Sevilla team. You can play Osasuna to qualify at odds of around 1.67 if you’d rather take the safer route and protect against potential extra time. However, this price is big enough where it’s worth taking a shot at the win in 90 minutes for the home team. Our Osasuna vs Sevilla prediction: Osasuna to win
