19th placed Nottingham Forest host Chelsea who are in eighth position in the Premier League. Forest only have Southampton below them in the table but are only a point from safety. They'd have probably bit your hand off for that being the position at the end of 2022. January will see them again signing more players as they try to find the magic 11 that can keep them in the Premier League. Home form is vital for them because their record on the road is appalling with only two points and just one goal scored. Improving that is a key target for 2023. At home, Forest have won three, drawn two and lost three, a far better record. Two of the last three at home have been won with victories over Liverpool and Crystal Palace. They're unbeaten in their last four since a 3-2 loss to Fulham. Their only game since the season resumed was a 3-0 defeat at Manchester United.
Chelsea need to go on a good run if they want Champions League football next season. They had a good 2-0 home win over Bournemouth on Tuesday but are still six points off fourth plae, though they do have a game in hand on Tottenham. Chelsea have gone three away league games without a win. They drew at Brentford and then lost to Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United. This is the kind of game that Chelsea just have to win if they are to finish in the top four this season. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last six games against Forest and their midfield and attack should be too strong for the home side in this game.
