Norwich City and Sheffield United will on Saturday continue with their promotion quests when they face off at the former’s Carrow Road in Round 39 of the English Championship. Sheffield United are second, with 70 points while Norwich are jthree points behind the final promotion play-off position currently held by Millwall. A win over United would be their first since 2017 and in order to end this woeful run against them, will have to be at their very best as they come into this match without a win in their last three matches. Bluntness in attack has precipitated this dip in form as they have scored just one goal in those three matches. Just like plenty of the top teams in the division, Norwich had a number of players (ten) head out for international duty and manager David Wagner will hope that all will return fully fit. Home form had seen Norwich win three in a row in the Championship before being beaten by Sunderland.
Sheffield United also had a considerable number of players on international duty at both senior and youth levels and should have all of them fit for this match. Paul Heckingbottom’s men have had a disappointing 2023 so far by their standards as a lack of consistency has seen them fall off by the wayside in the title race. They trail leaders Burnley by 13 points with nine matches left and even though they are mathematically in with a chance, all focus now goes to cementing second place and the second automatic promotion place. United are already in the last four of the FA Cup but even they will admit getting promoted back to the Premier League is more important. The Blades have won three of their last five league games and won their last two on the road.
Both these teams are targeting promotion at the end of the season, which makes this an enticing match that could see plenty of goals but our take is for there to be an outright winner and we predict that Norwich City v Sheffield United will end in an away win.
