Newcastle United grabbed a deserved point away at Wolves last weekend thanks to a late Jacob Murphy free-kick while Everton suffered their first defeat of the season on the road at Southampton. The Magpies are 14th coming into this game with the current league leaders and Steve Bruce will be hoping his injury list decreases in the days leading up to the fixture. The manager was unable to call upon Johnjo Shelvey while Issac Hayden sat on the bench recovering from a hamstring injury so Bruce was left short in the middle third of the pitch. Everton could potentially dominate that area of the field and hand the Magpies their third defeat in four games at home. Newcastle were beaten 3-0 by Brighton and 4-1 by Manchester United either side of a 3-1 victory over Burnley at St. James’ Park.
Carlon Ancelotti and his team were well beaten by Southampton, 2-0, last Sunday but if they have any aspirations of claiming a European place in this campaign, they should be capable of a reaction. The Toffees had won both of their away games at Tottenham and Crystal Palace prior to last week’s loss and should get on the scoresheet against a side who eight goals in three home matches thus far.
I expect a reaction from Ancelotti and his team here as they look to take advantage of an injury-hit Newcastle. Everton have the ability to bounce back from defeat last week and I'm tipping them to come away from this one with all three points.
