Newcastle United have a very good recent home record against Chelsea in the Premier League and will hope this will help them move up the table. Newcastle are 13th in the season with 11 points, while Chelsea are 5th with 15 points.
Newcastle went into the international break losing 2-0 to Southampton, continuing their see-saw season. The Magpies have now won three and lost three this season, while drawing the other two Premier League matches. With only ten goals scored, they have been one of the lowest scoring sides of the campaign so far, although with 13 goals conceded Newcastle haven’t been miserly at the other end. The see-saw nature continued in their home form as Newcastle have alternated wins and losses at St. James’ Park this season. All four matches have been high-scoring, though, witnessing at least three goals every time. Additionally, Newcastle’s last three matches in that sequence saw goals at both ends.
Chelsea picked up momentum before the international break with four straight wins in all competitions including two in the league. The Blues have lost only once this season, but three draws have pegged them back. Entertainment is guaranteed, though, with Chelsea remaining the highest-scoring side of the league so far with 20 goals. At the other end, they have only conceded ten goals with only five sides conceding fewer than that so far in the season. Chelsea have been one of the best travelling sides, though, remaining unbeaten in their four league matches – two wins and two draws. Goals remain a strong feature, as three of those four matches saw Chelsea score exactly three goals.
Newcastle United have won five of their last seven Premier League home matches against Chelsea, losing only once. That is a great record for the Magpies who come into this match with two home wins in three matches. Chelsea improved their form before the international break and would be keen to continue in the same vein. This could be an interesting game full of goals and we are backing the second-half to be the busier of the two halves.
