Bournemouth head to Newcastle United just one point adrift of the top-six in the Premier League. The visitors are seventh with 16 points, while the hosts have risen up to 15th with 12 points.
Newcastle were staring at the relegation zone not long ago, but have had a quietly confident couple of weeks. Four points from their last two matches meant the ‘Magpies’ have stitched a gap of four points with the bottom-three. However, scoring concerns still remain with the side who have scored just nine goals. That is the second-least tally in the Premier League season, while they have already conceded 17 goals. That said, Newcastle have proven themselves to be a stubborn proposition at home. The hosts are unbeaten in their last four Premier League home fixtures, although drawing three of those. Only three sides were able to score past Newcastle at St James’ Park this season and that too for just once each.
Bournemouth are in equally good form, losing just one of their last seven Premier League matches. This sequence saw them win and draw three games each, including an impressive 1-0 home win over Manchester United in the previous round. The ‘Cherries’ have kept three Premier League clean sheets in a row and can make it four in a row for the first time ever in their Premier League history. Bournemouth’s season has actually been based on their defensive strengths. They have conceded just 13 goals so far, which is the sixth-best tally at this stage of the season. Their away performance, however, hasn’t been impressive and Bournemouth have been struggling for consistency. Two wins and two losses in five matches speak of a form that has oscillated either way.
Both Newcastle United and Bournemouth are coming off wins in their last match and will be confident of extending that. Newcastle have remained unbeaten at home for their last four matches and have conceded just three goals at home this Premier League season. Bournemouth have also been defensively solid, with their last four matches producing a total of just two goals. Another low-scoring match could be on the cards.
