The basement clubs of Pool ‘B’ – Namibia and Canada will battle it out in this fixture of the Rugby World Cup, looking for their first points of the campaign.
The Namibians started the tournament with a 47-22 loss to Italy. They were then thumped 57-3 by South Africa failing to produce even one try. What followed later is mayhem – as New Zealand ran riot with them in a 71-9 win. That the Namibians have a negative 141-point differential is no surprise. What shouldn’t be a surprise is the fact that only Canada have a poor point differential than the Namibians (negative 163 points). However, this is one fixture that the Canadians would have earmarked to win even before the tournament started. Namibia is the only side ranked lower than Canada – albeit by just one place.
Canada, however, have been below par in all their games so far. They started with a 48-7 loss to Italy. After that, they were blanked by New Zealand 63-0 before losing out to South Africa by a margin of 66-7. However, like the Canadian camp has been saying – they were planning for this match for a long time now. However, the physical toll after the South African match could be too much for Canada. They have had just four days off to recover although the side is bristling with confidence.
On paper, before the action started in the World Cup this is one match that Canada would have loved to win. They will be playing a lower-ranked Namibia in their last group fixture. However, it won’t be a straight forward one for Canada. Not only were they physically stretched in their last match against South Africa, they also have had lesser number of days to recover. Backing Canada might be a logical decision, but we are expecting a surprise result from this match.
