Mönchengladbach v Union Berlin Betting Tips [31 May 2020]

After their 0-0 draw at Werder Bremen last Tuesday, Borussia Monchegladbach are ranked fourth in the German Bundesliga. Next opponents, Union Berlin, are 13th after a 1-1 draw at home to Mainz.

With six games left to the close of the season, Gladbach  are a couple of point behind third -placed Leipzig and four adrift of  Borussia Dortmund in second.. There is a mathematical chance of Monchengladbach toppling Bayern Munich from the top of the table, but with the latter being 11 points adrift, this maybe a far-fetched dream. The draw at Werder Bremen extended Gladbach's winless streak after the coronavirus break to two games after they lost 3-1 to Leverkusen in their opening match after the league resumed. This was the second time in six games that Monchengladbach have lost at home. The match also became Gladbach's fourth in six home games to end with more than two goals and the fifth to have goals by both opponents. 

Visitors Union Berlin are just four points from the relegation play-off position and they need to exercise extreme caution to avoid the chop. Any mistakes at this point of the season could prove costly for them and coach Urs Fischer will be hoping to avoid the kind of mistakes that lead to their 4-0 defeat at Hertha Berlin two weeks ago as the league restarted. Union Berlin have now played five straight league games without a victory and have failed to maintain a clean sheet in six of seven away games. When it comes to goal tallies, six of Berlin's away games have had more than two goals scored and four have had goals by both opponents.  

Having won the reverse game 2-0, Union Berlin might know the secret to conquering Monchengladbach, but because the league is at an advanced stage, the hosts could have learnt to exercise caution and will likely come out with a solid defense and lean attack force. 

The two teams in this match have different ambitions and will each come out eager to gain points. Gladbach are hoping to play in the Champions League next season, while Berlin wish to remain the league having ascended this year via playoffs. Each coach will be pursuing early goals and we see both opponents shaking the other's net at least once before the end of regulation time, and with the total count to exceed two goals.
