Lyon drew 1-1 with Strasbourg last week which leaves them six points adrift of a Europa League qualification spot and it is increasing unlikely that they will be playing European football next season. They are in 11th position on 34 points while their hosts Metz come into this game off the back of a draw of their own with Nantes (0-0) and they are currently 15th on 28 points.
Metz have lost six straight meetings with Lyon without scoring a goal and they are winless in three matches coming into this game but have managed two draws. Metz have won just six of their 25 Ligue 1 matches and have drawn more games than any other team with them being involved in 10 stalemates. Metz have lost just one of their last six matches taking 11 points from the last 18 available. At home Metz have won two of their last three fixtures but did lose the last time they hosted here at Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien to Bordeaux 2-1. Metz have an even record at home this season with four wins, four draws and four defeats also.
As for Lyon they have struggled in the absence of Mepmphis Depay and Jeff Reine-Adelaide. Both forwards have been out since December and Lyon have won just two of their eight league matches in that time. They are without a win in three and have lost their last two games on the road. Where wins aren’t always guaranteed for Lyon, goals sure are and with Moussa Dembele they always have a chance of scoring. 10 Lyon’s 13 away matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals and 3.2 goals have been scored in those games on average.
I see Lyon returning to winning ways here despite this tricky venue. Metz tend to score at home but I think they will be outscored here so I’m going to tip a Lyon win and over 2.5 goals in this match.
