Marseille v Brest Betting Tips [27 May 2023]

Third-placed Marseille will take on Brest, who are 14th, in their penultimate match of the Ligue 1 season on Saturday. The hosts are five points behind Lens in second place, while Brest are eight points clear of relegation and are guaranteed another season in the top flight with two games to go. Thanks to changes in the rules this season, the side in third place in Ligue 1 will enter the qualifiers in the Champions League next season. Marseille plays Ajaccio on the final weekend and needs Lens to lose their remaining fixtures to have a chance of moving into second place. The host's hopes of overtaking Lens took a critical hit last week when they lost 2-1 to Lille. That was their second loss in their last ten matches, along with five wins and three draws. However, with this being their last home match of the season, Marseille will want to put on a show and get the win for their fans one last time for the season.  

Brest have pulled away from the drop zone with back-to-back home wins over Auxerre and Clermont in the last two weeks. They’re safe this season but are seven points behind the 48-point tally they managed last season, with a match against Rennes to come. It could have been a lot worse for Brest, but they seemed to have switched on since the start of April. Over their last six matches, Brest have suffered just one defeat while pulling off four wins and a draw. Their away record for the season is unimpressive, with just three wins, six draws, and nine losses in 18 matches on the road. However, like their overall record, there has been a notable improvement in recent weeks, losing just once in their last five outings. Brest have only beaten Marseille once in the last four years, which was at this venue on their last visit. They’ll likely find it much harder this time around. 

Marseille’s hopes of automatic Champions League qualification may be out of their hands, but they will want to sign off their last match at home with a good result.
