Maritimo are going through tough times and will hope to start December well after a two-week break. They are set to host Rio Ave as they start their Portuguese League Cup journey on 1st December. This season, Maritimo have played 14 matches, and managed just one win. They come into this game having lost 1-0 to Vitoria Guimaraes in their last game, making it two matches without a goal. They however have two clean sheets in their last three games, following their only win this season, 1-0 against Pacos Ferreira and a 0-0 draw with Famalicao. Poor as they have been this season, Maritimo have only conceded more than a goal in one of their last five matches – a 4-2 loss to CD Mafra earlier in October but it is also the only time in the last five matches that they scored more than a goal. Each of Maritimo’s last four matches has produced under 2.5 goals.
Rio Ave on the other hand, have a good run coming into this game, with three wins in their last four matches. They have three clean sheets in the last four matches though they have only managed more than a goal in one of their last five matches, a game they suffered a 3-2 loss, away to Oliveira Hospital. Rio Ave go into this game having failed to score in just one of their last five matches and in that run, four matches have produced under 2.5 goals. An improvement on their away run will however be the big target here; they’ve managed just one win on the road in the last eight matches. That win came in their last away game, a 1-0 victory at Arouca.
Rio Ave have the better run coming into this game but their away form isn’t the best. They will want to size this up against Maritimo’s poor home form and hope to come out tops. One common occurrence in these two sides’ games has been low scores and coming into this game, we will back under 2.5 goals as the final outcome.
