Manchester United bid to make it five wins in nine months against West Ham United. Last season, they beat the Hammers in the FA Cup, this time around it's the EFL Cup in which they meet. This is a third round tie, both sides received byes to this stage due to them being in European competition. Sunday saw Manchester United beat West Ham United 2-1 away from home. It was so nearly a draw but David Moyes must have missed the Euro 2020 final and not realised that bringing players on just because they are supposedly good penalty takers doesn't always work. Plenty of team changes are expected for this game, it's the unwritten EFL Cup rule. Most likely no Cristiano Ronaldo but take a look at the subs bench for Sunday's game. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer can rest several players and bring in Sancho, Martial, Lingard, Van de Beek, Matic and Mata. Over 90 minutes, it's 14 years since a team outside of Manchester went to Old Trafford and won an EFL Cup tie.
West Ham last won at Old Trafford in 2007 and face a tough task here. They began the season well with two straight wins in the Premier League. Since then, they've pleyed four games and the only win was in the Europa League at Dinamo Zagreb last Thursday. West Ham will have Mikhail Antonio available again but the Hammers are likely to make several team changes for this game. Bench watch again and the fact is West Ham don't have anything like the depth of their big-spending opponents. Back a home win in this game.
