Manchester United will hope for winning momentum in the Premier League when they welcome relegation-zone candidates Watford to Old Trafford in the English Premier League. While United start this round seventh in the standings with 38 points, Watford are 19th with 24 points.
United come into this match on the back of a slightly fortuitous 2-0 win over Chelsea. Not only were United at the right end of contentious VAR calls, they also had favourable decision on Harry Maguire ‘violent conduct’ check. Nevertheless, the win stopped their three-match winless run in the league and is only United’s second win in six Premier League matches. The worry for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the diabolic manner of United’s play – they have been brilliant against the top-sides, but poor against the bottom-half clubs. The same team that drew Liverpool, defeated Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea have lost to West Ham, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Watford and Burnley.
Having already defeated United at home, Watford will be looking to do a league double over their esteemed hosts. However, their good form has tapered off over the previous four rounds casting doubts on their chances. Watford have picked up only two points in their last four league matches, and will be desperate for getting back to winning ways. The problem has been their strike force that has landed just 24 goals – the joint-second lowest tally for a club in Premier League this season. Their away form is no solace, either, with just one win in their last seven league trips. This sequence has landed Watford four losses, although two of those were to the top-three sides.
It is very difficult to predict how Manchester United will fare, especially against the teams from lower-half of the table in this Premier League season. The ‘Red Devils’ have been supremely inconsistent and although there were flashes of brilliance against Chelsea, it is tough to assume it will be repeated against Watford. The visitors themselves are looking for a win to ease their impending relegation worries. Looking at how these teams are rallying up this season, we expect the sides to produce at least one clean sheet in this match. Our main tip, though, backs the overall goals to be under 2.5.
