Fourth-placed Manchester City welcome sixth-placed Everton ladies for the final league match on Saturday. This Barclay’s Women’s Super League game will be played at the Academy Stadium in Manchester. The hosts lost 2-1 to city rivals Manchester United in their last match which was a killer blow to their top-three hopes. Coupled with a defeat to Liverpool women, they have now lost two games in a row. That left them three points behind third-placed Arsenal going into the final match. With a 11-goal deficit to cover, it would require a massive goal swing for City to move up to third into the Champions League qualification places. Yet, they would be keen to end their season on a high with a win. Having won seven of their last ten Super League matches, City would be confident of ending their season on a high. To go with that, they have won their last five in a row at this venue, which adds to their confidence.
Everton are confirmed to finish sixth, irrespective of the result here. They travel here on the back of a 2-1 win against Brighton which halted a two-game losing streak. The visitors were beaten 7-0 by Chelsea and 4-1 by Arsenal in the two matches prior highlighting their troubles against top teams. In fact, they have lost three of their last five league matches, which casts a cloud over their ability to end the season on a high. Everton have also lost the reverse fixture 2-1 after goals from Blakstad and Shaw gave City an upper hand, despite an equaliser from Sevecke. As they look to end on a confident note, Everton will have to overcome their recent indifferent away form of just one win from five league trips.
