Lyon are the form team in Ligue 1 and their main man Memphis Depay has arguably been the league’s best player so far this season. The forward has scored three times in Lyon’s last two games and helped them fight back to claim a point in a 2-2 draw with Rennes at the weekend. Lyon remain top but PSG closed the gap to just one point meaning the league leaders can’t afford to slip up here against mid-table Metz.
Metz travel to Lyon in 12th place after a 1-1 draw with Nice in their last game and they are now winless in three matches. Lyon should extend that run here, the host themselves are unbeaten in 16 league games and seem to be thriving without having to play European football. The home team have won eight of their last 10 matches but have kept just one clean sheet in their last five games so there is a vulnerability at the back. 21 of Lyon’s 40 points have been attained in home games and they remain unbeaten when hosting so far this term. Rudi Garcia’s side have won six of their nine matches in Lyon and have won each of the last four head-to-heads when hosting Metz.
Metz were 15th when the season was halted last season and they finished the campaign with 34 points after 28 matches. This season they have picked up 25 points from their first 19 games and are 12th so there has been improvement at The Maroons. The visitors, however, have picked up just two wins on the road in nine matches but their 1-0 defeat at Rennes just before Christmas was their first defeat on the road in seven games. Metz were narrowly beaten by Lille and PSG 1-0 back in September and they have only conceded more than once in one of their nine matches away from home (Strasbourg 2-2 Metz).
