The match

LA Lakers were left stunned when Portland took the momentum, they garnered from the seeding games into game one of this series by defeating the top seed in the west to take a 1-0 lead. The Trail Blazers took game one 100-93 however, the tide quickly turned and the star-studded Lakers have roared back to take a commanding 3-1 advantage in the series. The Lakers hit back with a dominant 111-88 win in game two before a 116-108 victory in game three. They then ran rampant in game five winning 135-115 and will now look to seal the deal in game five at the AdventHealth Arena.

The Lakers finished the regular season with a 73.2% winning rate but they did stutter into the play-offs losing five of their eight games in the bubble prior to this first round series. Portland managed to take advantage of the Lakers’ poor form and take game one but since then LA head coach Frank Vogel has seen a reaction from his players and the difference in seeding between these two teams has started to show. The Lakers scored an average of 113.4 points per game in the regular season and that has slightly risen to 113.75 in the post-season largely due to their high-scoring heroics in game four which they took 135-115.

Portland’s hopes of taking this to a sixth game will be dampened by the large probability that Damian Lillard will be unavailable for this game. The point guard hobbled off on Monday night with a suspected knee injury and now head coach Terry Stotts may have to make do without Lillard who was awarded MVP for the seeding games in Orlando as Portland went 6-2 in the bubble. His absence will leave a huge gap in their scoring game as the point guard scored on average 37.6 points per game in the seeding matches before hitting 86 points in the first three games of this series.

Key Statistics

  • Three of the five games these teams have contested in 2020 have featured over 222.5 points including each of the last two games in this series.
  • Nine of Portland’s 12 games in Orlando have seen over 222.5 points scored.
  • Across the season Portland’s games have averaged 230 points per game.

The bet of our experts

Where Portland missed Lillard in the scoring game, the Lakers thrived with scorers all over the court. LeBron James went big with 30 while (AD) Anthony Davies scored 18 points in 18 minutes. Kyle Kuzma bucketed 18 points from the bench and Dwight Howard (13) and Danny Green (14) also chipped in. I’m expecting another high-scoring performance from the Lakers as they close out this series in dominant fashion. I’m tipping over 222.5 points to be scored in this game.
