Liverpool are hoping that they can climb back to the top of the table this weekend when they host West Ham at Anfield in the Premier League. The Reds are second in the league, behind only Everton on goal difference. West Ham, 12th in the table, could climb as high as fifth place if they win and other results go their way. While David Moyes' side has been on a good run of form lately - picking up eight points from their last four matches - he knows that a win at Liverpool is highly unlikely. The last team to claim victory at Anfield domestically was Chelsea in a League Cup game more than two years ago. Jurgen Klopp's men have bounced back from the shocking 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa by winning three of their four subsequent games. There is an issue for Klopp to address for this match and it is at centre-half. Virgil Van Dijk suffered a long-term injury in the 2-2 draw with Everton a fortnight ago and it appeared as though Klopp had selected Fabinho as the man to take his place. Fabinho proved a capable deputy in the two games that he played in but then he also suffered an injury in the Champions League win over Midtjylland in midweek.
West Ham forward Michail Antonio showed how problematic he can be for big clubs with an acrobatic goal in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City. The bulky Antonio held off his marker to make space for the shot. A handful for the best of players, he may be playing against a deputising defender on Saturday with Jordan Henderson touted as a potential Fabinho replacement. With three goals in the league this season, Antonio is a man for Liverpool to watch carefully. However, West Ham have greater threats to worry about in the form of Mo Salah (six goals in the league) and Sadio Mane (four). West Ham are unbeaten in their last two away matches, scoring three goals on each occasion. They haven't won at Anfield since 2015 and we don't see that changing. We can, however, see them scoring a goal. Back Liverpool to win and both teams to score.
Liverpool have the quality to undoubtedly thump West Ham. However, they are missing key personnel at the back and this makes them vulnerable to the Hammers' in-form attackers. Back Liverpool to win and both teams to score.
