Burnley’s European ambitions take them to Anfield to take on the recently crowned English Premier League champions Liverpool. The hosts have 92 points with four games left to play, while the visitors are 10th with 49 points, but two points adrift of top-seven.
A comfortable 3-1 win over Brighton in the last round meant Liverpool have now won 30 matches this season, the most they have ever won in a single league campaign. The title is already in the bag, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are now gunning to close in on Manchester City’s 100-point Premier League landmark. With 12 points on offer and nine needed to cross that figure, Liverpool will be keen not to slip up and miss that chance. The newly-crowned champions are enjoying the goal-scoring exploits of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. While Salah has 19 goals and just three behind Vardy in the ‘Golden Boot’ race, Mane has 16 to his name.
A seventh league goal of the season for Jay Rodriguez gave Burnley a 1-0 win over West Ham in their recent match. The win edged Clarets closer to a Europa League spot, as they bid to remain in the top-seven and wait for the permutations and combinations to work in their favour. Thankfully, Burnley are one of the most in-form teams of the division, losing just once in their last 12 top-flight matches. The clean sheet at West Ham mean that Burnley have a league-high 14 clean sheets to their name this campaign. Additionally, Burnley have picked up 13 points from the last 18 available in away league games. That is as many as they earned across their previous 16 away matches before that. Furthermore, the win marked the first time since May 2015 that Burnley have won back-to-back Premier League matches without conceding.
Liverpool have won 17 out of 17 at home this league season and have a 128-year-old record in sight, when Sunderland won every home league game in a season. Klopp’s side wouldn’t want to take their opponents lightly, as a number of records are in sight for the team and its players. Burnley are one of the in-form teams coming into the contest and still have high European ambitions. Will that be enough to defeat Liverpool and spring a surprise? We are not backing the visitors to have any success here and our main pick is on Liverpool winning with a clean sheet.
