It isn’t all smooth for Lens in Ligue 1; the team that had one loss in the opening nine matches, now has three in the last five. They will be at home to face Angers, hoping to restore their early season stability. Ahead of this game, three points stand between the two sides; Lens have 24 points in fourth place and Angers have 21 points, in sixth. Lens are coming from a 4-0 loss at Brest, the second time in five matches that they failed to score, and also the second time in five that they conceded two or more goals. Their matches have been high scoring; each of the last four has produced over 2.5 goals. They’ve scored four goals twice in their last five matches but have one clean sheet only in that run. At home, they have three straight wins, and in those wins, they’ve managed two or more goals. In total, they’ve scored 10 goals in their last three home matches.
Angers aren’t having a better run as well; they are coming from a 1-0 win over Lorient, that being their first victory in five matches, and second in 10. That win, at home, also served Angers’ second clean sheet in 10 matches; they aren’t the strongest in defence and this is one area they need to improve on. Three of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals while they have managed to score two or more goals in just two of their last 10 matches. To get into the top five, they will also need some improvement in their attack. Apart from Marseille, who have played a game less, Angers are the lowest scoring side among the top seven sides in the league. In their first away match of the season, Angers beat Strasbourg 2-0 but they have failed to add on to that; they go to this game winless in six straight away matches. They also have no clean sheet in their last six away matches.
To prevail in this game, these two sides will have to tighten up at the back. They haven’t been at their best in defence, while Lens have a slight edge in attack, which will place them at an advantage. Lens playing at home will definitely be favorites, but we feel this game could also see over 2.5 goals scored as has been in the teams’ recent matches.
