Leipzig v Schalke 04 Betting Tips [27 May 2023]

Second-from-bottom, Schalke, will need to overcome third-placed RB Leipzig to stand a chance of staying up in the Bundesliga when the two face off on Saturday. The hosts, Leipzig, have already clinched a Champions League qualification spot, while Schalke are on 31 points, and one point from safety coming into this final match of the season. Leipzig are five points behind Bayern Munich and four ahead of Union Berlin, meaning that regardless of the outcome of this match, they will finish third in the Bundesliga this season. The hosts are ending the season in fine style, coming into this one off the back of five consecutive wins. Their last was by far their most notable, beating Bayern Munich 3-1 and seemingly handing the title to Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig have been very good at home this season, losing just twice in 16 matches at Red Bull Arena. They’re on a three-match win streak in home matches, too. The Red Bulls won the reverse fixture 6-1, and with it being the final match of the season, they will be eyeing up another big scoreline in this one. 

Schalke, meanwhile, are set for an eventful final day. The visitors are one point behind Bochum, who holds the relegation playoff position, and also one point behind Stuttgart, who are currently safe. A win for Schalke will mean they are safe if Bochum and Stuttgart fail to win their matches. A draw for Schalke and a loss for Bochum could see them swop places due to Schalkes’ better goal difference of just one. However, the visitors will need to put all of that aside and treat this as do or die. Schalke kept their survival hopes alive by taking a point from Eintracht Frankfurt in their last match. Over the last six, they’ve won three, drawn one, and lost two. Their away record has been their major downfall this season, winning just two of their 16 matches on the road, along with five draws and nine losses. Schalke have lost three of their last four away matches without scoring. They’ve also lost four-in-a-row to this opponent, outscored 18-1 in that time. It doesn’t look good for the visitors, and they may be just 90 minutes away from heading back to the second division. 

Schalke are playing for their life. Bochum have a difficult match with Leverkusen, while Stuttgart plays Hoffenheim, but Schalke have to aim for a win here. With a spot in next year's Champions League already secured, RB Leipzig could make a number of changes to their lineup in this one, which could help the visitors.
