Leipzig v Paderborn Betting Tips [6 June 2020]

Julian Nagelsmann’s Leipzig side climbed back into third spot on Monday night with a 4-2 win over Cologne taking them to 58 points for the season and two points ahead of Borussia Monchenglabach and Bayer Leverkusen as the race for Europe intensifies. Meanwhile, Paderborn were beaten 1-6 at home to Borussia Dortmund meaning they are nine points from automatic safety in last position and have now lost a league high 18 games this term. 

RB Leipzig had to come from behind to beat Cologne last time out and top-scorer Timo Werner played his part as he netted for the 25th time in this campaign. That win extended the Röten Bullen’s unbeaten run to 11 matches and takes the average goals per game to three since the season resumed (12 goals in 4 games). The hosts haven’t lost in 14 fixtures across all competitions since October but have drawn their last two games when at home. Schalke are the only German side to win away at the Red Bull Arena this season alongside Lyon in the Champions League. Leipzig have scored 35 times in 14 home league matches this term which works out at 2.5 goals per game on average.  

While Werder Bremen have begun to make a late season surge for safety, Paderborn have been left behind and with just five games to go need an almighty miracle to avoid automatic relegation and indeed the relegation play-off spot currently occupied by Dusselfdorf on 27 points. Paderborn have just 19 points of their own with just one win in 12 from Christmas. They had drawn each of their three games since returning to action before Sunday but were unable to thwart the Dortmund onslaught led by Jadon Sancho. The visitors have failed to score in any of their last three away matches and have tasted defeat in each of their two visits to this ground.  

For Paderborn their fate looks sealed and relegation is a foregone conclusion. Things aren’t about to take a turn for the better either as Leipzig look to lay down a marker in the bid for Champions League football next season. I’m going for a home win and over 2.5 goals to be scored in this game.
