Leeds United will look to continue their surge for promotion when they host Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on Saturday in matchday 16 of the Championship season. Leeds are unbeaten in four after two wins and two draws in recent weeks including a 2-0 win over QPR at home last weekend which has left them in third on 28 points.
While United are two points off West Brom who lead the way, Blackburn are labouring in 16th after they stopped a six-game winless run last weekend to attain a much-needed three points. They face a stiff test if they are to make it back-to-back wins with Leeds losing just once at home this season 1-0 against Swansea.
Tony Mowbray’s Rovers have managed to score in all but two of eight away games so far this season but have just two away wins on the road and have lost the last three on their travels in succession. Four of Blackburn’s last five games on the road have witnessed over 2.5 goals, however not one of seven games at Elland Road this season has seen three or more goals.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds boast the best defensive record in the league conceding just eight goals in 15 games. At Elland Road they have conceded just three times after seven matches which is an average of 0.43 goals conceded at home per game. Fixtures involving Leeds this season don’t promise much excitement with just 1.7 goals per game on average scored.
Leeds will be firm favourites heading into this game and rightly so. They rarely concede on their own patch and have won four of the last five meetings with Blackburn. Rovers know where the net is but Leeds have kept some of the highest-scoring teams out already including West Brom and QPR. I’m going to tip a home win and under 2.5 goals as Leeds are yet to score more than twice at home this season.
