Lazio are eyeing a second straight win in Serie A as they host Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday. They are joint top after the opening week of matches, having beaten Empoli 3-1. Spezia drew their opening game 2-2 with Cagliari and will also be gunning for three points here. Lazio’s win over Empoli marked a sixth unbeaten outing but they have work to do defensively having managed just one clean sheet in seven. They will bank a lot on home form here, having gone unbeaten in 13 league games there, winning 12 and keeping seven clean sheets.
Spezia will hope to improve from their low finish last season and take here a five-match unbeaten run. A big concern coming from their opening game is having led 2-0 but letting it slip to draw 2-2 with Cagliari. After that result, they have no clean sheet in 10 straight games and the fact they’ve never beaten Lazio strengthens their underdog status. They’ve only won once in the last nine league matches and defensively they’ve been very porous. The visitors have conceded two or more goals in seven of the last 10 league games. They’ve lost six of their last nine away league matches too.
Spezia haven’t done so well in the Serie A in recent times. They go here as underdogs, having also lost to Lazio in all their three previous meetings. In Lazio’s form, they will be expected to lead in both halves.
