Only two matches remain in the Italian Serie A with a lot still to be decided as the title race, Europa league race and relegation battle all look set to be resolved on the final matchday. Our match here sees Lazio looking to secure their position in next season’s Europa League when they head to Turin to take on Juventus. I Biancocelesti sit fifth in the league table with 62 points and lead city rivals Roma by three points. They will come up against a Juventus team looking to bounce back after a bitterly disappointing extra-time loss in the final of the Coppa Italia against Inter in midweek. Unlike their opponents today, Juventus have already wrapped up a Champions League spot, sitting fourth with 69 points. The Old Lady is unlikely to overtake third-place Napoli who have 73 points, meaning that there isn’t much left to play for from the visitors perspective.
This is an interesting situational spot as there are a few different factors that need to be considered. Lazio should have a clear edge on the motivation angle as they could lose out on their Europa League spot if they fail to pick up points in the remaining two matches. There is also an extra layer of drama with Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri looking to get one over on his former club. It’s difficult to gauge how Juventus will come out in this one. With the cup final loss in midweek, this will be the first time in 11 years that the famous Italian club has finished trophyless after a near decade of dominance. Juve lost their most recent league match 2-1 to Genoa while Lazio have closed the season out strongly with their 2-0 victory over Sampdoria making it four wins from the last six.
We’re going to back Lazio on the double chance as our bet for this match. Lazio’s have been fantastic away from home in recent matches and have pulled their away record up to a very respectable 8-3-7. Knocked out of all competitions and with nothing left to play for, we could see a flat Juventus team here. Ultimately we can see Lazio getting at least a point here and we wouldn’t be surprised if Sarri’s men were able to claim all three points.
