Juventus, who lifted the trophy last year with a 2-1 win over Atalanta in the final, are looking to win their record 15th Coppa Italia title and their sixth in the last eight years. Their opponents, on the other hand, will be hoping to end a 10-year wait since last tasting success in this competition when they triumphed over Palermo 3-1 in the 2010/11 final. Inter have the added difficulty of having to balance their fitness as we approach the final two games of the league season, as the Nerazzurri are still very much alive for the Scudetto and trail leaders AC Milan by only two points. Conversely, Juventus have already secured their top four position and can turn 100% of their attention to the cup final as it represents the Old Lady’s only opportunity for silverware this season.
Inter come into this match in excellent form after defeating Empoli 4-2 to keep the pressure on city rivals Milan for the Serie A crown. Simone Inzaghi’s side have now made it seven wins from their last eight matches in all competitions and have been in irresistible goal scoring form. Inter could well make the case for being the best team in Italy despite their current league standing. The defending Serie A champions have scored the most goals in the competition with 78 while being tied with Milan and Napoli for the best defensive record with only 31 goals conceded. Inter have also had the upper-hand in recent matches between the two sides with the Nerazzurri lifting the Supercoppa Italiana over Juve after a 2-1 extra time victory, then following that up with a smash-and-grab 1-0 away win in Turin in early April.
