Iran take on the USA in their final World Cup Group B fixture and both countries still have a chance to qualify. That didn't look likely for Iran after their opening 6-2 loss to England. However, they bounced back well and beat Wales 2-0. That's taken them to three points and second place in the group. They trail England by a point but are one ahead of the USA and two points clear of Wales. If this match does produce a positive result then the winners will qualify for the last 16 and win the group if England lose. The USA have to win this match to reach the last 16. For the USA, the equation is a simple one. Anything less than a win over Iran will see them eliminated. They could even end the group undefeated but still be on their way home. If that is the case, their next World Cup game will be in 2026. They are one of the co-hosts for the next World Cup finals, so no qualifiers for them. Both of their matches in this group have ended in draws but they could have six points. The Americans have only scored one goal so far and lack a prolific scorer who can put away the chances they create.

Their last five games have all had under 2.5 goals scored in them. One goal in their last four internationals shows why they are in danger of failing to make the last 16. Away form is a massive worry for the Americans with no win since a 4-1 defeat of Honduras in September 2021. That's the only time in 12 away World Cup qualifiers that they have scored more than one goal. Go for under 2.5 goals to be scored in this match.

A win for either country will take them into the last 16. The confidence in the Iranian camp has been going up and down all week. A 6-2 loss to England  was bad enough but then there was criticism over their refusal to sing their National Anthem before that game. Beating Wales 2-0 was a great result for them and qualification could be achieved even if only drawing this match. The USA have drawn both of their games but are struggling for goals. Their away form remains disappointing but they have to win to get into the last 16. Finishing off the chances they make is going to be vital for them. Go for under 2.5 goals to be scored in this match. A side bet on a draw may be profitable with four of the last five USA games ending level.
