Hull City hosts Nottingham Forest in the Championship in what could pass as a dead rubber affair. Hull City are 18th with 50 points while Nottingham are third on 79 points as the regular season heads to the final game. Hull City can’t go higher than they are and are better off strategizing for next season starting now. They are coming from a 5-0 loss at the hands of Bristol and in their final home match they’ll want to sign out on a high. Each of their last four matches has produced over 2.5 goals, with Hull registering one clean sheet in that period. They’ve won the last two home matches and will be looking to cash in on the fact that Nottingham Forest are preparing for the playoffs. This, however, isn’t a fixture they’ve really excelled in; they lost the first leg meeting 2-1 despite going to the break leading.
The 1-0 loss at Bournemouth in the last game means Nottingham Forest can’t finish in second place. As a result they miss out on the automatic promotion, and have to battle through the playoffs. It is the harder way and they will need their best men fresh and available so we do not expect them to feature in the final game of the regular season. Nottingham Forest have been on an amazing run in the Championship; they have eight wins in the last 10 matches ahead of this one. In three of their last five matches, Nottingham Forest have kept clean sheets. Nottingham have beaten Hull City four times in the last five matches, but that will not be their main agenda here; these two sides are battling from very different fronts.
Nottingham Forest have already secured a top six spot so they will be looking more at the playoffs which come after this game. This match could mean more to Hull City than Nottingham Forest. Hull are playing at home, in front of their fans and will be pressured to give one good final performance. Coming into the game with back to back wins at home, they will be fired up for this. Go for Hull City to win.
