Girona and Rayo Vallecano may have finished 5th and 6th respectively in La Liga Segunda but those two teams are now one game away from reaching the top-flight. In fact, Girona who finished four points above Rayo in the regular season have control of this tie having one the first-leg 2-1 in Madrid. Girona made it through the semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Almeria after they finished in the top-six largely down to their end of season form. The hosts won seven of their final eight league games and carried that form into the play-offs with The White and Reds now hopeful of a return to La Liga. They were relegated during the 2018/19 season alongside Rayo Vallecano finishing 18th, four points from safety.
Vallecano were bottom that season as they ended the year with 32 points but a 67 point tally this time around was enough to see them secure the final play-off place. They took full advantage defeating Leganes who finished 3rd as they won their play-off semi-final 5-1 over two legs. A 2-1 loss at home to Girona in the first leg here, however, leaves them fighting an uphill battle. Rayo have won each of their last three games though and won their away leg against Leganes. A similar result here would see us into extra-time and Rayo won the last league meeting back in April by that very score-line. The visitors have won five of their last seven matches in all and have scored multiple goals on five occasions during that run.
