Germany are set to host Argentina in an international friendly match at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Wednesday evening. The match, certainly pitting together two of the world's biggest rivalries of football, is touted to be a real thriller.
Germany last beat Argentina within regulation time in 1990, and in the nine games that followed the Albiceleste won five times. When it comes to goal scoring, three of the last five matches between the two sides have ended in more than three goals, but only two of the five fixtures ended with both teams scoring. Overall, three of Germany's last five encounters and two of Argentina's last five matches across all competitions ended in over 2.5 goals.
German boss Joachim Low has already confirmed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will start between the sticks. Also excluded from this match are Nico Schulz, Antonio Rudiger, Toni Kroos, Julian Draxler and striker Mark Uth. Meanwhile while Lionnel Messi will be missing from the Argentine squad. Messi's place will be taken by Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez, the man who netted a hat-trick in the first 45 minutes of Argentina's last clash with Mexico. Martinez has so far recorded nine goals in 13 caps for his nation. Coach Lionel Scaloni has also excluded Andres Romero, Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Mauro Icardi.
While Germany will be playing in front of home fans and will be out to impress, Argentina have shown a stealth in attack that has kept them winning over the Nationalelf. In this regard, it is likely that this match will end in a draw if not a victory for the visitors.
