Galatasaray v Trabzonspor Betting Tips [5 July 2020]

With 52 points, Turkish Super Lig defending champions Galatasaray are ranked fourth as they take on second-placed Trabzonspor in the 30th match of the season. As it stands, with eight points keeping them from leaders Istanbul Basaksehir, Galatasaray may not have enough runway for title defense as just five games are left to the end of the season. 

It will also be an uphill task for them to oust next opponents Trabzonspor from the Champions League qualification position, with the latter sitting six points ahead. Additionally, the Lions have fifth-placed side Besiktas to worry with only a two-point lead for Galatasaray. Besiktas are at relegation-threatened Kayserispor on Sunday so the pressure is on them to get something from this match..

Galatasaray resumed their season with a 2-0 loss at Rizespor followed by a 3-3 draw at home to Gaziantep, where they let slip a 3-1 lead to share the spoils although they played the final 35 minutes with only ten men. It took a 104th minute penalty to deny Galatasaray all three points. . Galatasaray's most recent match,  a trip to leaders Basaksehir, ended with a 1-1 draw bringing their run without a win to five matches, four of which have been drawn.  All a bit disappointing considering they had won eight league games in a row before this poor run began. At home, Fatih Terim's had won five consecutive home games before drawing the last two. They are unbeaten in their last nine league games, the last defeat being in November when losing to current league leaders Istanbul Basaksehir. That's their only home league defeat in the last 51 played, going back to 2017. They have only conceded in one of their last four home league fixtures. 

Visitors Trabzonspor are chasing their seventh league title, last winning the championship in 1984. They only trail Basaksehir by a couple of points and the remaining league games after this trip to Galatasaray also appear to favor them. Their run-in inlcudes games against  two relegation-zone sides Kayserispor and Konyaspor as well as mid-table teams Antalyaspor and Denizlispor. Trabzonspor have only lost one away league fixture this season and that was in September. They come into this match unbeaten in their last 11, though three of the last five have been drawn. Trabzonspor have the best away record in the league with seven wins, six draws and that solitary defeat. They have scored 27 goals,  the most that any team has had on the road this season, although they have secured just three clean sheets from their away games. As they visit Galatasaray, Trabzonspor will be bearing a slight lead of five of wins from their last ten head to head matches in the league of which the hosts won four times.  The reverse fixture this season ended in a 1-1 draw. However, the Turk Telekom Stadi has been tough ground for Trabzonspor as they have lost three of  the last four  league matches.

The title chase may be practically over for Galatasaray but that will not stop them from giving a final push as they bid for a Champions League position, or at the very least protect their Europa League qualification. Trabzonspor, on the other hand, have the title within their reach and will do all it takes to get there. We predict a fast-paced match that will end with goals by both opponents and a total tally of over 2.5.
