Erik ten Hag is gone and Ajax started life under new manager Alfred Schreuder with a loss to PSV in the Super Cup. The Dutch giants will start their Eredivisie run away to Fortuna Sittard. Fortuna will be hoping to do better this season, having finished just two points above the automatic relegation slots last season. Their preseason activity hasn’t served the best results, the team failing to win any of their four matches. In their last eight matches, they have one clean sheet, with both teams scoring in seven of the eight.
Ajax’s 5-3 loss to PSV will cast some doubts over their defensive strength and especially have been weak defensively in their preseason engagements. Even in. their friendly game against Almere City, after the loss to PSV, Ajax still couldn’t keep a clean sheet and the new manager will have to find a way to address this. Ajax have no clean sheet in their last five matches and both sides have scored in seven of their last 10 matches. Last season, Ajax scored 10 goals in their two matches against Fortuna in the league. They have three clean sheets in five meetings with Fortuna Sittard and on four different occasions in the five meetings, they’ve scored five goals.
Ajax may be coming from a heavy loss in the Super Cup but that won’t matter much in this game. They are outright favorites and have dominated this game before. Their only concern will be that they don’t have many clean sheets, and Fortuna Sittard may want to take advantage of this. Both teams scoring is a good pick here.
