The match

Last season’s K League 1 winners Jeonbuk will make the trip to the World Cup Stadium in Seoul at the weekend. The visitors come into this game in pole position after four games but defeat in their last match at Gangwon ended a three-game winning run. Nonetheless, Jeonbuk are top with nine points while their hosts from the capital are 7th with six points and were beaten last time out while hosting Seongnam.

Seoul have now lost four of their last five domestic home games stretching back to last season after their most recent loss. This term they have two wins and two defeats and a win in this game would see them go level on points with their guests. The home side have just one clean sheet so far this season and that was against the team currently bottom of the division - Gwangju FC. Seoul have conceded in six of their last seven home league matches and have conceded two or more goals in each of their last five head-to-heads with Jeonbuk while hosting.

As for Jeonbuk they have enjoyed themselves in the capital in recent years with just two defeats from 13 visits since 2014. They have emerged victorious in each of their last five trips to this stadium and will be hoping to bounce back with another win after defeat in their last game on the road. The champions were the most successful team away from home in the league last season with nine wins and 33 points from 16 games in the main phase of the competition.

Key Statistics

  • Jeonbuk haven’t lost consecutive away matches since July 2017.
  • Only one of the visitors’ last seven away games have produced over 2.5 goals.
  • Seoul are winless in nine versus Jeonbuk, losing seven of those games.

The bet of our experts

Jeonbuk have won the K-League three years in succession as well as being crowned champions in five of the last six seasons. They only other team to lift the trophy in that time was Seoul when they won the K-League Classic back in 2016 but I can’t see the capital-based club being a match for Jeonbuk here as they hope to press on for the fourth consecutive title. Back the visitors to prevail in this contest.
