Farense are smarting from a 6-0 loss to Sporting Lisbon in their opening game of the Portuguese League Cup in Group B of the competition and will be looking to recover when they host Maritimo in their second game. These two sides are yet to pick points in the group, and courtesy of their heavy loss, Farense are bottom. The hosts have struggled to replicate their league form in the cup games and here they have the chance to register a third win in six matches across all competitions. They have only beaten Penafiel and Trofense in their last five matches, while they have just two clean sheets to show in those matches. They’ve failed to score in two of their last three matches while three of their last four matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Farense have however managed to score more than a goal in just two of their last five matches. Farense are on a good run at home; unbeaten in all their seven matches at their backyard, winning four and drawing three. They have scored two or more goals in six of their last seven home matches.
Maritimo are having a poor season and their opening loss in this competition, 1-0 to Rio Ave was hardly a surprise. They are struggling in the Primeira Liga, and are currently in the relegation zone, having managed just one win in their 13 matches in the league. Across all competitions, Maritimo have played 15 matches and won just once. Coming into this game, they have failed to score in any of their last three matches, and lost the last two with identical 1-0 margins against Vitoria Guimaraes and Rio Ave. Maritimo have scored more than one goal in just one of their 15 matches this season and away from home they have six losses in eight matches. These two sides faced off in the Primeira Liga last season, and each team won their home match – Maritimo winning 1-0 in the return leg after Farense had beaten them 2-1 earlier in the season.
Maritimo have had a tough season and though they’ve dominated their recent meetings with Farense, winning three of five and losing once, this will be a tough call in their current form. Farense may be coming from a heavy loss but they have a good run and especially at home. The home team’s scoring run in home games has been impressive and we will back them to win here.
