Everton aim to make up ground on their European place rivals in the Premier League on Saturday when they host Watford at Goodison Park. The Toffees are eighth in a tightly-contested top ten, with a win potentially taking them as high as fourth place. Watford are 16th with seven points, putting them four points clear of the relegation zone. Rafa Benitez enjoyed a superb first few weeks as Everton boss, winning three and drawing one of his first four Premier League games. The following four matches were less spectacular, though, producing only one win. They lost their most recent outing 1-0 at home to West Ham, another team vying for a continental competition qualification spot. Benitez could be boosted by the return of at least one of the striking duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. Even without those forwards, Everton will believe they have enough to beat Watford at home, having won three of their last four games at Goodison. They are unbeaten in their previous six home matches against Watford, winning four times.
Watford took a heavy beating last weekend at home to Liverpool, the visiting team firing five past their hosts in a display of dominance. It was Watford's fourth loss in six games in all competitions. The tone has apparently been set for the promoted side's campaign: it will be a battle for survival. The vast majority of the points they win will come at Vicarage Road. They have already lost three of their four away games, with the exception being a win against fellow promoted outfit Norwich. We advise backing a home win.
