Everton are on a very poor run and it is not about to get easier, with a home game against Merseyside rivals Liverpool coming up. The Toffees are 14th in the league standings, with 15 points, while Liverpool are third on 28. Ahead of this game, Everton suffered yet another loss – 1-0 to Brentford and they are under real pressure now, with the injuries not easing. They did start the season well, but things worsened and they go to this game with just one win in the last 10 matches. That win was against a struggling Norwich side, and they’ve lost six of the 10 matches. They’ve failed to score in their last three matches and in three of the last five, they’ve conceded two or more goals. They are also winless in the last three home matches and in addition to the injuries, Mason Holgate will still be out suspended for this game.
Liverpool are on a good run; they just had a small hiccup in the loss to West Ham United before the international break. After that defeat, they have registered three straight wins, and scored 10 goals in the process, while keeping three clean sheets. It is expected to get easier when they take on a side with a poor scoring run. In seven of their last 10 matches, they have kept clean sheets and in the last 17, they’ve managed to score two or more goals. They did concede three against West Ham though, making it the second time this season that they’ve conceded three times in one game. After three straight games at home, Liverpool step out of Anfield and will be hoping to correct the mistakes they made against West Ham in their last away match.
Liverpool are clear favorites here; they are in great form and will be eyeing top spot, being just two points behind league leaders Chelsea. Everton go to this game on a poor run. Nothing much has been going for them and they will be under pressure in the derby. Their attack has been blunt, and defence porous, a very dangerous trend heading into a game with Liverpool. Back Liverpool to keep a clean sheet.
