It was 2018 when Simona Halep last lost a singles match at Wimbledon. The 2019 champion hadn't been back since then but now she's two matches away from another title. The 16th seed takes on Elena Rybakina who is seeded one place below her. Halep has won one tournament this year and came into Wimbledon after reaching two grass court semi-finals. The Romanian has never looked in trouble during this tournament and is yet to drop a set. The fourth round saw her lose just three games to Paula Badosa and Amanda Anisimova was dominated in the quarter finals. Halep has had three previous meetings with Rybakina. The first saw her lose after having to retire due to an injury. Since then, two have been won, both going to three sets.
Elena Rybakina has nowhere near the experience on grass of her opponent. This is only her second time in the main draw, though she did get to the fourth round last year. 2022 has seen her get to this semi-final without having to meet a seeded player. She had to come from a set down to get past Alja Tomljanovic in the quarter finals and that's the only set she has lost in this tournament. This is her first time in a Grand Slam semi-final. Before this tournament, her best had been getting to the last eight of the 2021 French Open. Halep has been in dominant form and her fitness seems to be holding up well. Go for her to get the win here in straight sets.r.
