Belgian club Gent will hope for a huge turnaround of fortune when they travel to Ukraine to take on FC Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League play-off fixture. Dynamo won the first leg played in Belgium 2-1 with goals from Vladyslav Supryaha and Carlo de Pena on either side of a Gent goal scored by Tim Kleindienst.
The Ukrainian side Dynamo are in good form coming into this game and are coming off a 4-0 win in the league. They have won three of their last four domestic league matches and are all set to continue that run. Even in the Champions League, the 2-1 win in the first-leg has extended Dynamo’s unbeaten run to three matches – winning the last two. What’s more impressive is that Dynamo have been enjoying their home benefits in the continental competition. Dynamo are unbeaten in six Champions League home matches winning four and drawing two. More importantly, they have kept a clean sheet in four of those matches.
Gent followed up the first-leg loss with another loss over the weekend in the domestic league match. The loss also makes it three losses and just one win in their last four Champions League matches. That said, most of Gent’s matches have been hard fought with only a narrow margin of victory. Gent’s last nine Champions League matches have seen a one-goal winning margin – four Gent wins and five losses. Furthermore, Gent have lost four of their five Champions League away matches – including a 3-0 loss the Dynamo side in 2010.
Dynamo Kiev have taken a major chance with a win in the first-leg. They have been impressive at home in the Champions League and should fancy their chances. We are backing a home win.
