Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) have the chance to rise from the bottom of the Primera Division when they travel to Club Deportivo Lara in their next league matches. This game brings face to face the two sides at the foot of the table, UCV bottom with 15 points and CD Lara 15th with 17 points. CD Lara did well in their last game, twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Carabobo though they were helped a bit by Carabobo playing the final 22 minutes with 10 men. Bryan Jose Castillo came to their rescue with a 90th minute goal, as CD Lara scored for the fourth straight game. They’ve however failed to keep a clean sheet in the last three matches, conceding two in each. Both teams have scored in CD Lara’s last three games, and the matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
UCV are coming from a 1-0 home win over Caracas, courtesy of a late goal scored by Emilio Montero. With a comfortable win here, they can rise two places up, which will be key in their survival race. Their first ever meeting with CD Lara in May ended 0-0 and they will be inspired by that to try and bag three points here. They’ve collected seven points from the last five matches, two more points than CD Lara’s in the same run. Three of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals and UCV have failed to score in two of the five matches. It is their away form that will really pose tough questions. They’ve failed to score in three of the last four away matches, losing those games; the most recent being against Estudiantes de Merida. UCV have no clean sheet in their last five away matches, three which have ended in over 2.5 goals.
Defending doesn’t come across as the strongest department for these two sides. Though they’ve been scoring goals, keeping it clean at the back has been a problem and going into this game a recurrent stat is over 2.5 goals. This is expected to play out again, with these two sides almost matched and each will probably want to go all out for three points.
