It is a top-of-the-table clash in Group ‘A’ of the European Championship Qualifying, as Czech Republic (second, nine points) host England (first, 12 points) with an eye on reducing the deficit.
More than the deficit, the hosts will have one eye on taking revenge for the 5-0 thrashing they received at the hands of England in the reverse fixture. The Czechs were quick to improve right after that drubbing, winning three of their next four (W3, L1) Euro qualifiers. Two of those wins have come by a 3-0 margin – both against Montenegro home and away. Their other win was by a 2-1 margin against Bulgaria. The hosts have usually been involved in matches that see action at both ends. In 11 of their last 15 Euro qualifying matches involving Czech Republic, there were goals at both ends. The Czechs usually have been very impressive at home, and have already picked up back-to-back wins at home this campaign. Additionally, they have lost just once in their last eight Euro qualifiers played at home (W6, D1, L1) with four of those wins coming via a 2-1 scoreline.
It won’t be easy for the hosts, though, considering the rampant form that England are in. The ‘Three Lions’ have been scoring goals for fun and have already notched 19 goals in four matches, scoring at least four in each fixture. England haven’t lost a game in the Euro qualifiers since November 2007, winning 19 of the 21 games hence and drawing the other two. Even away from home, England have been in impressive form in the Euro qualifiers winning each of their last six games. That includes 5-1 win over Montenegro in their only away game in the Euro Qualifiers of this campaign.
England have been in impressive scoring form in the qualifiers and this game could see the continuation of that. The Three Lions have even defeated Czech Republic 5-0 in their first fixture of the qualifying campaign. This game might not see a repeat of that result, considering how the Czechs have been involved in games that see goals at both ends.
